Jane Tennison is a rookie police officer on her first assignment at the Hackney Police Station. She is running late for her first day on the job and bumps into an old lady, who she feels obliged to help to her apartment and make her a "cuppa tea".
Tennison always seems to be in the right place at the right time and she's smart enough to remember key information, but inexperienced enough to not always know what to do with it. I enjoyed this insight into the character on "Prime Suspect" and always enjoy a female detective. This was another crime novel where you knew who the culprits were, but weren't really sure how they were going to catch them or what was going to go wrong. I didn't enjoy all the characters and felt some relationships were a little forced. They made an impact on the overall tone for the end of the book, but they weren't really necessary.
