For fans of Prime Suspect, Lynda LaPlante introduces a young Jane Tennison who has recently graduated from the police academy and is now serving a probationary period. As one of the few female officers she is often relegated to fetching coffee and sandwiches for senior officers and answering the phone. When the body of a young girl is found in a park, Jane is pulled into the investigation and, while she is still unsure of herself, you begin to see flashes of the detective that she will become.
Tennison takes place in 1973. Women are beginning to find a place in a male dominated profession and LaPlante further sets the tone through the use of popular music of the day.
