When I read the first couple of paragraphs of Tennison by LaPlante as a partial ARC, I was not sure I was going to like the story since female police officer plots are not my traditional favorite. However, I am so glad that I kept reading. As soon as the officer noted all of the unusual high end appliances in the old woman's flat, I wanted to know what the real story was. The writing style is fast paced and easy to read, and the characters seem realistic. I could not help but smile at the female employee finding a sink full of dirty cups and dishes in the employee's break room, despite the fact that there was a sign advising all (of the male dominated employee roster) to clean up after oneself. A dead young hooker's body, a foray into the proverbial bad end of town, and a machismo boss are stirred into the mix and make you want to continue reading.
