It’s incredibly difficult for me to speak about this book because it is very moving and I’m finding the words are escaping me. There were parts of this book that were horrifying and difficult to read, but at the same time I am better for having read them and understanding how things were and frankly still are in places. I thought the author did a fantastic job of both describing her reactions and emotions as the action occurred and then also looking back and explaining from her perspective now why she thought she acted the way she did. As someone who is still growing up, I found those insights, thoughts, and even some science around behaviours enlightening. Another aspect that was fascinating to me was the language used around consent and how conversations around what is the appropriate language still happen today. There are some heavy, heavy topics in this memoir and I think the author handles them very well. I would recommend this memoir to friends in a heartbeat.
