I read this book and not going to lie, was kinda disappointed. I felt like the concept and message was good, but to big for how short the story was. Sugar Town Queens is told in the pov of biracial main character named Amandla. The book talks about the struggle between her understanding her mom, and her mom side of the family. In the beginning, she had no background knowledge about her mom side until she follows her and uncovers the truth. However, instead of being accepted by her family, she's treated like a ghost(More so from her uncle and especially her grandfather). It was disgusting to experience the racism from her grandpa, but it demonstrates something very true and real. She does though gets and better understanding and build a stronger relationship with her mother, cousin, and grandma. There were also relationships involved in the story. I feel like this story was just not for me. I wasn't a fan of the writing, and I felt like the story could've been longer and expanded. I did have some enjoyment with reading this book, and liked the message brought on in this book.
