This is a coming of age story about Amandla who embarks on a search with her friends Lil Bit and Goodness to find out about her father and the family her mom has lost contact with. She must face the divide been the rich and poor, blatant racism and hidden family secrets that change everything.
I think the author did a great job tackling serious topics and talking about them in a realistic way through the characters. The book was still a light and fun read with these issues being on the forefront.
I thought this was so enjoyable from front to back! I really liked the complex family drama, the loveable characters and the rich, descriptive writing. I felt like I was right there with the girls Sugar Town. The teen romance in the book was adorable and I really liked seeing both couples grow closer. The ending had me tearing up and left me wanting more from these queens!
