The strength of the eldest daughter no matter the size of the family she is a part of is crucial for the success of all those she loves and cares for. This is exactly the case for Amandla, a biracial girl from a township in South Africa.

While reading this book, I was surprised at how easily I was able to float through the pages without needing to throw the book down due to frustration or boredom. Although there are times I rolled my eyes at some of the characters' choice and words, I was still able to move through this entire book in a couple of days. Partly due to the interesting relationship Annalisa has with her daughter Amandla and how damaging codependency between mother & child can be if this was about any other family. Another thing that kept me turning the page of this book is needing to know the truth behind Annalisa's past and what led a white woman to what is described in the book as a "slum".

If you like reading dramatic mysterious feel good books, pick this book up for a quick read.
