Great main character, instantly immersive

This seems like a fantastic YA novel, judging from this intro, and I already love the central character and her voice. It seems rare to see a YA book in the US set in South Africa (and NOT by a white author-yay), so that seems great too. I'm sure this will be a heavy book in some ways, but it also seems like it will bring joy and lightness to the conversation as well.
