Stars and Smoke" is a fun adventure filled with spies and action. The premise is intriguing, and the story delivers on its promise, keeping you engaged with its fast pace and twists. However, I am tired of the "enemies to lovers" trope, especially when the characters aren't even real enemies. I found it quite a bit cliché here. While I didn't HATE the characters, they lack depth and interest and motivation and personalities (ok maybe I didn't love the characters) which made it hard to fully connect with their journey. Additionally, the plot unfolds in a fairly predictable manner, with few surprises along the way. Despite these drawbacks, "Stars and Smoke" remains an enjoyable read for those who appreciate a good dose of action and intrigue. While it wasn't really for me, it's still worth picking up if you're in the mood for a fun, fast-paced adventure.
