This book originally came out in 2023, but it is being re-released through a new publisher with incredible new artwork in preparation for the sequel that comes out in June.

I love a good spy novel, and when I read that the premise involved a superstar (think BTS) becoming a covert secret agent, with his bodyguard being the undercover agent he is partnered with, I knew I wanted to read it.

While this is YA (I mean, the MCs are 19 years old), it was a fun, fast-paced novel that kept my attention and blended humor, clean romance, and spy antics.

This novel was also fast-paced. Marie Lu's writing is always so bingeable and this novel was no exception. The pace is very similar to a Bond book/film, which keeps this book moving appropriately for the content.

This book has some strong YA vibes, and there is little to no romance (just hinted at off-page). I knew that it was YA going in, so my expectations were appropriate, and I honestly cannot wait to see where this spy duo goes in book 2, which comes out on June 11, 2024.

If you are looking for a palate cleanser, a fun, fast-paced spy novel, or just a book full of witty banter, "Stars and Smoke" should be on your TBR.
