Stars and Smoke follows a spy and superstar on a mission to take down a major crime boss. As the two spend more time with each other, they realize there’s more to their personalities than meets the eye. This leads them to reach an understanding that allows them to work well together.
I personally loved how both of the main characters had depth to them. Despite their obvious differences, they face similar hardships with their past and challenging family dynamics. It was interesting to see how their backgrounds shaped them to who they are and impact how they navigate their lives. The plot kept me engaged, especially seeing Winter and Sydney slowly develop feelings amidst all the action that was happening. I loved their interactions with each other! The author does a good job of describing the setting, but at some parts it was hard to imagine. The cover art is beautiful and captures the “double life” Sydney and Winter partake in as part of their mission.
