I should have liked this book. I really should have.

It has so much of what I love and look for in books: positive racial diversity, LGBTQIA representation, pretty boys, and powerful women. A dash of mother issues and tragic backstory really added promise to this book, and although I'm not the biggest fan of enemies-to-lovers, I don't detest it, especially after McQuiston swept the romance world with their own beautiful enemies-to-lovers story.

But this book felt like such a chore to read. This was not enemies-to-lovers, this was mildly annoyed and presumptuous girl and jaded nervous wreck boy exchanging banter and falling in love. And maybe my experience with romcom books is weak, and I do like slow-burn vs the quick, falling fast insta-love, but should it really take nearly 20 chapters for the characters to catch feelings? Even if their focus was on the mission, the romance seemed to drag on.

But credit where credit is due, I suppose
