I hate to judge books by their covers, but this was a cover that I just glazed over. It looks pretty non-descript and I didn't particularly care to read more. But, as I read the synopsis, I got more interested. I am not families with the writer, but the quotes on the cover lead me to believe that he is well known in his genre - which isn't one that I read all that often.
