I am a very big fan of Marie Lu and I have read almost every single one of her books. Her ideas are always refreshing and her writing is extremely unique and heartfelt. Although, in this particular book I felt the writing was shallow and didn't go on a deeper level. I didn't connect to the characters like I thought I would on any level. They weren't as developed as I wanted them to be. Plot wise, the idea was really good but it wasn't executed well at all. The introduction kept me engaged, but the entire in between part was too rushed and the plot felt too easy for the main character. The conclusion or the "cliffhanger" was way too predictable and common in the YA dystopian trope and I could name 5 other books with the same ending. Overall, the book lacked the typical Marie Lu smoothness we all know and love. I was honestly expecting a lot more out of this book.
