Thank you to Bookish First and author Marie Lu for the opportunity to review the first three chapters of Skyhunter.

The first three chapters introduce Talin, a gifted fighter despised as a racial minority in an adoptive homeland, after fleeing the home of her birth as a refugee. The book, in the first three chapters, describe a long, harsh war, following a cataclysmic event which left the world bereft of much of its population and accumulated knowledge. Talin is partnered with a favored son of an affluent family, while she is from the other end of the socio-economic spectrum. The book presents a variety of social and economic ills, and presents a society with insufficient resources struggling to maintain the safety of its citizens from the invading army.

The author develops Talin, as well as a couple of other characters, in the first three chapters, giving the reader a good hook to maintain interest. While there is one fight scene, it is not described in such a manner as to glorify the violence, nor is it so graphically described as could be a nightmare trigger for younger readers in the YA spectrum. There is no graphic sexual content or harsh language within the first three chapters, so concerned parents can rest easy with this book. The book moved with a sufficient pace as to maintain a reader's interest. I look forward to reading more of this story when it is released.
