The writing is lyrical, but the introduction of the world and scenario feels kind of blunt. In fantasy writing, I like to discover the rules and situation of the world while at the same time understanding what the world *means* to a character emotionally and, by extension, what this fantasy society is trying to reflect in our own world and experience. It'll be interesting to see how this scenario and world is used and developed in the full book. I liked the cover.
