Skyhunter is a blend of futuristic sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, and fantasy all in one. We follow Talin, a refugee working as a 'striker' in Mara, the last free nation that hasn't been overtaken by the Federation. I found her to be a likable character that from the get-go was easy to latch on to. Talin is mute, and I really appreciated (but cannot speak to the quality of) the representation. Sign language and language, in general, were a big aspect of the story which I found to be such an interesting concept. I think that it tends to be overlooked in most YA fantasies I have read, but as someone who loves languages- I always like to hear about how they work in different fantastical/futuristic worlds.
This author always nails her novels. She writes believable stories and they keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I will continue to read anything Marie Lu writes!
