Wow! If anyone has read my First Impressions, they'd know that I'm a sucker for a great first line and Marie Lu delivered! I've always been such a fan of her work (Legend was one of the first dystopian YA novels I read!) and with each new series, it's obvious that her writing has only grown stronger. The story begins with a line about Ghosts. As someone who generally can't deal well with horror-esque elements, I was nevertheless enthralled. Every page made me want to read more and I think that this first chapter really sets up the dire circumstances that makes up the series.

That's not to say that the rest of the First Impression wasn't just as amazing. Talin already seems to be such an interesting character. The brutality of the world has not diminished her resolve to save Mara and I'm devastated by what has already happened so far. Knowing Marie Lu, it'll probably only get worse from here and yet I'm interested to see how the potential rebellion will change everything (hopefully) for the better.

I also love the cover! It's so different from Marie Lu's previous titles, but still draws the eye with it's vibrant colors.

Overall, a great first impression! I'm looking forward to reading more.
