This is my first book by Nghi Vo, and I can safely say that I now need to check out The Chosen and the Beautiful because I've heard wonderful things. It follows a similar synopsis of fantasy and Hollywood stars, but its a dark, gritty story of how far someone is willing to go to achieve their dreams, specifically stardom.

Luli is a special sort of main character because she's willing to be unlikable in the pursuit of her life choices. She knows the odds are stacked against her, but she doesn't care. She's driven, ambitious as hell, and she's unapologetically herself. I'm absolutely in love with any LGBTQIA+ retellings of 20s-30s Hollywood, and if I knew this sooner about this book, I wouldn't have waited so long. It's sweet to watch Luli fall for her lovers and then in the next fight back against monsters (both fantastical and real).

Overall, I think this is a perfect story for lovers of historical fantasy and anything gay related to Hollywood. Watch me go find TCATB now!
