I read Nghi Vo's The Chosen and the Beautiful last year, and honestly, I did not enjoy it. I am not entirely sure of what it was, but I think it had something to do with the writing style. However, I am typically willing to read an author's next book even if I did not like the previous one, and I hope to win a copy of Siren Queen so that I can do so. After reading the First Look, I can say that I like the short chapters--many speculative fiction books have long chapters through which it is hard to parse. I cannot formulate an entire opinion yet, but I hope that I will like it more than I did The Chosen and the Beautiful.
