I surprisingly liked Sins of the Tribe by Mark A. Salter. Football and sports stories in general are not my thing, and I usually wouldn't pick up a fiction book about sports to read. That being said, I did find Sins of the Tribe an enjoyable read. Wally is a likable protagonist, and the characters feel real. What I most liked about Sins of the Tribe is that it wasn't just a novel about college football. It focuses on the toxic culture and corruption surrounding college football which is a story most people can understand. Salter's writing was very good, but one of my critiques would be the detailed football play descriptions. Those might be a bore for casual fans of football. Overall, I enjoyed reading Sins of the Tribe because although it's a fiction novel, it does make you reflect on the problematic aspects of the American college football environment that some people may want to gloss over. I think sports fan will really like this one!
