Nikki Griffin is a woman of many layers - she's the owner of a bookstore, The Brimstone Magpie; she's also a private detective; she's an advocate (of sorts) for abused women; and she's a really kick ass heroine. Nikki's latest case has her working for the CEO of Care4, a Silicon Valley company on the cusp of a huge product launch of their advanced technology baby monitor systems. The CEO, Gregg Gunn, hires Nikki to follow one of his employees who he thinks is stealing company secrets. While following the employee, Nikki stumbles on some new details for the case...putting herself in danger now.

While the mystery part of this was not totally up my alley, I absolutely loved Nikki Griffin as a character. I am so excited that this is a series and I'll be able to keep reading future installments with her as the central figure. A main character I can get behind, Nikki Griffin is a strong, yet flawed, with incredible skills, street savvy, and just a little bit of a soft, emotional side. I loved every interaction between her and the "bad guys." I also found it humorous every time she was searched for weapons or was faced with someone who underestimated her.

I looked up the author's website to see if there was any hint of when Nikki Griffin #2 will be coming out and, while that info is not posted yet, I am excited to see that the series was optioned for movie and/or tv. I would love to see her come to life on the screen!
