This was a short preview but so far I am unimpressed with the heroine, Nikki. Her brand of “beautiful, badass, and can read any man” type of woman comes of somewhat grating in print.
That being said, depending on how the rest of the story plays, I can see this translating well in other media. I got a Jessica Jones vibe from Nikki and would be interested to see where her story goes, but this wouldn’t be a must read for me.
The cover is somewhat generic for the genre. I think replacing the black with red would make a bigger impact on those who pick up books based on looks.
