The gritty prose style is a staple of books in this genre, and so is the no-nonsense attitude of our protagonist. The level of attention given to building the setting is, however, something that makes this book stand out. There's enough of the world that this writer visualizes that makes it clear she's got a plan and she's got one that's good enough to carry the reader through to the end. That in itself is more than enough for me to want to read more--if only to follow the ride out and see where it takes me.
