A dangerous investigation!

Our heroine sounds a bit like Jane Hawk--she needs to get the goods on the bad guys, but danger is everywhere a-swirl! Karen and Nikki sound like memorable characters, and I'll bet the bad guys are almost Gothic in their insidious evil!
