All I can say is Wow! I loved this book and am eager to begin the sequel! The world building is stellar, the characters fully-drawn, so interesting, with depth and multiple dimensions. The language is beautiful, with poetic elements. The story is compelling. Another reviewer compared the writing to that of Scalzi, Martin, and Rothfuss, all favorites of mine, and he is not wrong. This writer is every bit as strong in his abilities. It is definitely enjoyable writing, taking me thoroughly into another world and leaving me breathless with the pacing and plotting. I haven't read the author's other work, but will going back to look at that as well. I have found a new author to follow in the future and to read everything I can in his catalog.
