This book is really fantastic, and i can not wait to read the second installment. While it may look like a book about war and bloodshed, it really is about the ways we learn our place in the world and fight the powers that be and the institutions in which we find ourselves. The book is told through three women who are indomitable.
I was constantly surprised by the author's capacity to create a new world that still somehow seems relatable. And as a lawyer, I loved the way they're included in the story; there aren't enough lawyers in fantasy books!
As someone who doesn't love bloodshed, I found that this book did it so tastefully, because it almost always seemed righteous. People were defending themselves or others or fighting for a purpose. And I couldn't just breeze through them because sometimes, important things happened in these battles.
