One thing I look for in futuristic books is the social settings in which they are based. I like to see how the author sees our society as changing over time; the cause and effect of the introduction of new technology or magic upon a society. In this book, you quickly see how economics, scarcity, and tribalism are interwoven into the social fabric. I look forward to the opportunity to read the rest of the book, as my appetite is truly whetted from this first taste.
