I initially selected to read the sample because the cover drew my attention, and when I read the description, it sounded intriguing and like something I would read. The first few lines of the sample really brought me in, but I was almost immediately put off by the description of the bugs in the lanterns. I almost stopped reading there, to be perfectly honest because it felt so unnecessary. It may be an important plot point though, so I'd like to finish the book to find out.
This appears to be an easy read fantasy. The storyline flows well, and by the time I got to the end of the pages I was given to read, I wanted to keep going. My only real issue is the extreme number of adjectives. When the author is being descriptive, they are being extremely descriptive and in places it reads as excessive. That being said, a solid effort and one that I can't wait to finish when it releases.
