Just in the first couple pages of this book the author already provides us with a detailed picture of Crache. Their lamps are lit by insects similar to lighting bugs providing maintenance free lighting for years. The city is ran by the Gen Franchise Counsel located in a towering stone building. Gen's are the foundation of Cache; a house hold producing a good or service for the community in return for food, shelter and clothing from the counsel. In the beginning we are introduced to Lexi the newly senior member of Gen-Stalbraid after her husband's recent disappearance. The counsel is now trying to take her franchise away, and in addition paint her husband as a traitor.
So far I'm loving this authors writing style and how quickly he was able to paint a picture of this new and interesting world. Another interesting aspect to this story are the Undeclared who as children are expected to choose a gender assignment.
I'm already sucked in and would love to read the rest of the book!
