To be honest, the first five pages of this was difficult to get through. Rather than slowly introducing the world weaving its intricacies throughout the story, those first pages are mostly an info dump with some relevant information to understand the world. But at the same time, there is a lot of seemingly unnecessary information that as of the first chapter does nothing to enhance the story. If anything, it takes away from it. The author clearly put a lot of thought into creating this world and its political system but the information is presented in such a way that it comes across as a bit dull.

However, once those pages are done, the story starts to unfold. At the point, the pace picked up a little but I still found my thoughts wandering. The main character, Lexi, the wife of her Gen's leader, seems a bit unoriginal and already seems to be the stereotypical "strong" female character. The only character that really seemed interesting in this first look was Taru, Lexi's non-binary retainer. If Taru were the main character I think I would be more interested in the story. That being said, I feel like, given this author's storytelling style, one chapter is not enough to accurately judge this story. I feel like the story has potential but that it will end up being rather slow. I'm interested to see what happens next, but at the same time, I don't feel like there is anything memorable about this story thus far.
