Unfortunately, I think I need to give up on crime thrillers, especially ones similar to this. I have enjoyed them in the past, but I tend to enjoy crime thriller movies more instead. The author, Michael Ray Ewing's writing style was perfectly palatable, but I felt that the plot itself was ridden with too many tropes and stereotypes from the crime thriller subgenre. Every moment felt completely expected, and I was not shocked by any of the plot twists. I enjoyed the protagonist, Tyler Jackson, an ex-FBI guy, but I felt that his character just went through the emotions, rather than actually having anything interesting to say. He felt like a John Wick / James Bond stereotype, and I felt myself a tad uninterested in the novel about half way through. I don't think I'll be picking up any books by this author in the future. I appreciated the opportunity.
