Salt and Sugar is modern day Romeo and Juliet set in Brazil.
Lari Ramires's and Pedro Molina's family both own bakeries on the same street. One makes only savory foods and the other makes only sweet food. Salt and Sugar. Their families have been rivalries for several generations.
When a major supermarket comes to town they begin to buy up local businesses and their bargain prices threaten the already struggling bakeries.
Despite their hatred for each other Lari and Pedro must put aside their differences and work side by side to save their family bakeries. But along the way they discover they have more in common then they thought and they might like each other a little more then they should.
This was a really enjoyable read. Light and easy, fun and cute. The characters were well developed and I could easily see the book in my mind as I read. In fact I think I'd love to see this made into a movie. And the friend to lovers trope is admittedly one of my faves.
I would definitely recommend this book to others and easily give a 4 star review. This is certainly an author I would look for in the future.
