I really liked this story. A cool modern take on Romeo and Juliet (with a nod to the play that I missed but was revealed at the end, and I felt silly for missing it). I liked that the story was set in Brazil, and throughout it I got to learn about so many different types of Brazilian dishes. This is definitely a book that could make you hungry. I think the cooking and the culture aspect of the book was one of the things I liked the most.

The romance was also pretty cute. Two kids from enemy families are forced to work together, which changes how they see each other. I do think the feud between the families felt a little overdramatic at times, which occasionally made me roll my eyes. Lari (the protagonist) couldn't even work together with him to solve a math problem to get the class extra credit, which did make me feel a little annoyed with her. But overall I like her as a character, because she feels relatable in how much she cares for her family and making them proud but also wanting to find her own dreams. And Pedro has his own secrets and history which is interesting to learn. Overall I found the story cute, fun, and would definitely recommend it for YA romance lovers.
