This book was good, but really reminded me of another book called the Christmas Clash, where two rival food stories in a mall have to help each other because the mall is closing down. This book follows Lari Ramires. She has a bakery and their rival is another bakery called Sugar, hence the title. When a big chain supermarket comes into their town, many small businesses have to close. So Lari starts working with a boy from the other bakery to save both their businesses. And of course they start falling in love. I did really like the Romeo and Juliet aspects of this book, it was a cute young adult retelling. also this book made me super hungry while reading. I really liked the writing style of this novel, the themes of family, and fighting for small businesses. This also deals with some heavy themes of grief. Overall a good read that I would recommend.
