"Roomies" is well-written, smart, sharp, and timely. The characters are fully three-dimensional, complicated human beings. I don't usually go in for romance novels, but this one has me charmed. As real people are, both Holland and Calvin are combinations of likeable and unlikeable, which is what realistic book characters should be. My standard for romance reads is Jessica Park's "Flat Out Love." I can offer no higher praise than to say that "Roomies" reminds me very much of "Flat Out Love." My only gripe, and it's a minor one, is that Holland is an "archivist" whose job is to take pictures at a Broadway show. As a professional archivist, I can say that that is not what we do. I don't know whether there was just no other word for the authors to use, or if it's a joke, or a genuine misunderstanding of what an archivist does (which I'm well used to as it's rare anyone knows what my job is). Anyway, I loved the excerpt and I'm going to pick up the full-length novel.
