I am an avid Christina Lauren reader and will continue to read all of the books the co-authors write, but this one was not it for me. It felt like it was lost in an in-between of their older more R-rated novels and their newer more universal rom-coms. I struggle with books that just don't feel realistic, and the characters in this one felt very far removed from reality. Holland and Calvin didn't feel like they were really in love to me, and once their romance developed more, it came too late in the novel for me to really buy into it the way I have with some of Christina Lauren's past novels. The major plot point is that Holland "fake" marries Calvin to spare him from getting sent back to Ireland, as he is a talented musician who is finally finding success in the United States. It's sort of like The Proposal mixed in with The Hating Game.
