There is just something about the musician who performs in a subway station near Holland Bakker's apartment that has her inventing reasons to listen. When a random act of violence brings Holland together with Calvin, what will be the result? Will Holland be able to find her voice or will her insecurities be her downfall?

The title was deceptive, as I was not expecting a romantic story of this nature. Although I did find the characters to be charming, I was not really sold by the plot. I did not know Holland or Calvin more by the ending than at the beginning and they just did not come to life. Much of the story was completely unrealistic, especially with regards to the immigration issue. The book needed the disclaimer "Condensed for dramatic purposes", as it seemed more like a made for television movie that had to be shortened due to time constraints. That being said, Roomies had a good pace and would be a good summer read for those who like contemporary romances.
