Calvin and Holland are one of my new favorite couples!
Roomies was my introduction to Christina Lauren, and it did not disappoint. I love stories about "relationships of convenience" and Calvin and Holland were such an entertaining couple that I could not put this book down once I started reading it.
Things I Liked:
- Holland's awkwardness and insecurity. I felt it adequately expressed what it can be like to be female. Additionally, her inner monologues were hilarious.
- Calvin's accent, sense of humor, and all around good-guyness. It's always nice to read a romance plot where the Hero doesn't need to be reformed from his wicked ways.
- General lack of persistent, overwrought drama. This always causes me to enjoy a good story just a little bit less than I feel I should.
- That the plot included a controversial issue that is relevant today: immigration. This is a topic that truly affects people, and it's great to see it used effectively in a romance plot.
Thing I Didn't Like:
I personally do not like the first person narrative device. That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy the story, I just don't necessarily like spending an entire book inside one or two character's heads.
I thoroughly enjoyed Roomies, and I will be recommending it to all my friends!
