This book was not for me. The writing style came out clunky, possibly from translation, and the the plot moved either too slow to hold my attention or at times too fast to help me form a connection. I struggled to find depth in the characters and feel a pull to connect with their story. There were also several scenes that made me feel awkward reading and could have done without. Quite honestly, I found most the story boring. I got to a point where I started skimming through to the end.
I appreciated the cultural diversity and learning a bit more about a setting I hadn't read of. The thought behind the story along with the historical, religious, and cultural aspects were promising and usually something that I would really enjoy. Learning about the Palestinian and Jewish cultures and the struggles they went through was eye-opening and something I would read more about!
