"However, it is the 1940s, and relations between Arabs and Jews are tense." I suspect that would have something to do with, like, the Nakba, and that whole Nakba thing is what will make those tensions "come to a breaking point." While this story sounds like a story of mainly the 1940s and the 1970s, there are a lot of truths about racial cleansing and racial supremacy that one wishes a lot of people in those eras knew about, rather than cosy fictions, lies, and fairy tales. I don't know that this book will get into politics, but I'm sure it will give some sense of Palestinian suffering.
