An Intriguing Story of the Formation of the Modern Middle East

There are very few novels that I have encountered which tell the story of the creation of the state of Israel and even fewer which tell it from the perspective of the people who lived there, both those who were born there and those who settled there. I was absolutely enthralled with the story of Rasheed and Rasheeda, with how their lives mirrored one another's and how they reflected the changing social constructs of their time. I can't wait to follow their story, to see how they end up in Lebanon, to see what happens in their love lives. In just a few short pages, I have become invested in their lives and in their culture.
