I saw Promise Boys on Facebook and the cover was intriguing, so I was glad to have been able to get a copy from Bookishfirst. The characters felt realistic and the author had you wanting to learn more about them. I also like a good murder mystery and this was pretty good. This was a quick and easy read. I did enjoy learning about each of the main characters, but I felt there were too many different points of view about each of the boys. There maybe could have been a little more about the murder and finding out who was responsible. I liked how the boys stood by each other and that there were people who believed in them. I think it is important to have books like this, where readers like myself can learn about lives that are drastically different from our own. I thought the author did well with portraying the story realistically, but also adding elements of hope and addressing important topics like gentrification.
