This book is listed as YA, but I think it is something everyone should read. From the very start, you have a clear murder mystery ahead of you. But this book is so much more than that. It is a viewpoint into the minds of multiple POVs with insights that the characters would never share out loud. Within a few pages, you have a young white girl of self-described 'privilege' giving off major 'white savior vibes.' You get the nitty gritty of internal dialogue that should be a wake-up to all white readers who consider themselves 'woke' but still need lessons in cultural humility. You also have a military prep school setting. As a military veteran, I connected with the ridiculousness of how structure is the standard, despite there being potentially grey situations (like Solomon and his tie) that could benefit from flexibility. This was an exciting first glance into this book and I can't wait to read more.
