Judging "Promise Boys: by the cover I envisioned a gang related story of 3 young men toughened by the streets. Life is hard and they must be harder. The bright red background I assumed were gang colors. The mugshot height lines are a great touch.

The way the author tells the story is unique. Written in what I imagine a high school gossip column approach and I love it. Right off the bat you are introduced to multiple characters. Each testimony has their own viewpoint of the events of that day and opinions of the suspects. Different word usage and dialects reflect the characters backgrounds and attitudes well, making it easy to distinguish between them.

I am amazed that after reading only 30 pages I am hooked. I care about AJ and want the truth behind to come out and hopefully prove his innocence. I was touched by AJ's mother prayer for God to protect her son. I think I teared up. This is a great story headed for 5 enormous stars.
