33 pages in and I'm hooked. There don't seem to be a ton of YA murder mysteries, so I'm thrilled to see Nick Brooks's "Promise Boys" join the party. The setting: an urban, all-boys charter school. The victim: Principal Moore. The suspects: three students. So far we've got complex, believable characters, suspicious circumstances, and a healthy dose of bias and stereotypes clouding everyone's view of what happened. I can't wait to get the whole book and see how the tale unfolds.
