The Promise Boys has an outstanding hook: three teenaged boys of color at Urban Promise Prep School must investigate the murder of their principal in order to clear their own names. This book has been on my radar for a while as I think it will appeal to a big range of teen readers. The comparisons to works by Angie Thomas, Jason Reynolds, and Karen M. McManus really say it all! The short chapters and multiple points-of-view make for a speedy reading experience that will make Promise Boys accessible to reluctant readers, too. I definitely want to read more!
