Picture Us in the Light is the story of Danny Cheng, who comes to certain realizations about his parents and his life. With his future set after an acceptance to RISD, Danny comes to understand that dreams can crumble in an instant if you do not nurture them and help them grow.

The mystery behind Danny's parents history adds an extra element to the plot to help the book flow at a smooth pace. The character of Danny is well developed, with complexities and feelings that will resonate with the target YA audience. As Danny grapples with certain aspects of his life, readers will feel his confusion and his angst. I especially liked the ending, as it did not follow the predictable path. Picture Us in the Light is a book that I would recommend to YA readers of all ages.
