This is a great contemporary YA book. I liked that the main character's family supported his choice to be an artist and to pursue higher education for that goal. Times sure have changed for the better. This took an over done topic of parents not approving of an artistic child and flipped it over. I really like that and feel that this type of reaction is more reasonable at this current time. I also really like the cover of this book. As a high school librarian I know the cover is just as important as the story for teen readers. I have had students tell me they won't read a book with a bad cover so I am glad this cover is so well done because the topics in this book are important. I am glad to see these topics being addressed in this way.
