Frankly, this book surprised me. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did! This book touches a lot of heavy subjects, and that's not an easy thing to do without bringing the whole book down, but the author does a fabulous job of weaving it all together seamlessly into a story that ultimately is about friendships and family. The writing flowed well and drew me in from the very beginning. I honestly appreciated that Danny being gay and in love with his best friend (really not a spoiler since it's pretty obvious from the outset) wasn't shoved in your face throughout the story. It was there and an integral part of things, but it wasn't THE story, which was nice. I really enjoyed the characters - Danny, Harry, Danny's parents, Regina. They were all real and relatable and easy. Honestly, my most favorite characters though, were Danny's parents, even though I think the book was more Danny's story. I already really enjoyed their quirkiness, but when their story unfolded I just felt so much sympathy for them and their circumstances. Bottom line - really good book, highly recommended!
